Lumia930-Hero-in-lineWindows 10 for Phones and Tablets was officially revealed by Microsoft on 21st January and come February, it will be here running on registered “Phone Insider” smartphones. You can read all the revealed details about Windows 10 for Phone and Tablets at our dedicated page.

While some details have been revealed by Microsoft about Windows 10 for Phone and Tablets, not every feature that is quite expected to be present in Windows 10 for Phones, has been confirmed by Microsoft yet. For example; Hey Cortana, FLAC support, split-screen multitasking these all are present on Windows 10 desktop and the core OS being same they should be present on Windows 10 for Phones and Tablets too and we can expect them in future builds.

Now, we reported how wider hardware support that was supposed to arrive with Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 will now come with Windows 10. Again while this has not been confirmed by Microsoft yet, it gets revealed that Octa-core processors and very powerful GPUs will be supported by Windows 10 for Phones and Tablets.

A GDC session detail titled “Sustained Gaming Performance in Multi-Core Mobile Devices (Presented by Microsoft)” confirms that Windows 10 phones and tablets running Octa-Core processors are in fact expected soon.

Modern mobile devices and smartphones are reaching the computing capabilities reserved until recently for desktop PCs. Windows 10 phones and tablets with 8 CPUs and very powerful GPUs are expected soon. Despite significant progress in reducing power consumption these devices are able to draw more power under sustained load than can be safely dissipated with current passive cooling technologies. Windows 10 and the hardware it runs on are designed to safely handle such situations, mostly by reducing the system performance – which could affect game-play negatively. Learn to counter this effect by designing games that achieve sustained thermal-to-quality tradeoffs in these systems.

Now, this “expected soon” is quite subjective, but may be we will hear more in near-future. We can still expect upcoming Windows 10 Lumia Flagships will be one of the first Windows 10 smartphones equipped with Octa-Core processors.

We have reported about Microsoft fast-tracking Windows 10 for Phones and may push it to vendors by late Q2. This also means that the Windows 10 flagships may arrive earlier than expected.
